One of my recent visits in New York City was with Matt Harpalani of Imparali Custom Tailors.

Matt was recommended by several Members in th Forum. His offices are at 608 Fifth Ave, Suite 310, New York City, NY 10020. Yes Fifth Avenue! And you have to visit Matt since the building has the most beautiful are décor lobby and elevators live ever seen!

I chose a wool and silk blend sport jacket since I was looking for something for spring / summer. It’s a great plaid and priced at $450.

Matt knows about fabric and tailoring and is great to work with. He started his company in 2007. His father had a custom tailoring business in Houston and was about to retire, but didn’t want Matt to continue in the tailoring business and tried to direct him to another business.

Matt graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Economics and got a job with a bank. But he was still passionate about tailoring.

His father finally gave in but suggested that he leave Houston. He told Matt “New York is the place to be..” or a paraphrase thereof! Matt apprenticed with a friend of his father in New York City, and then opened his own custom tailor shop in April 2007.

While visiting with Matt, I noticed some outstanding neckties. They are the Exclusives Collection from Vittorio J, and are limited to a set of five hand-numbered limited edition ties that are cut, folded and hand-sewn in Naples by artisanalcraftsmen.
